2021 Pinot Noir, Wildcat Mountain Vineyard

94 Points - Vinous

Deeply aromatic, this wine delivers a concentrated palate with earthy fruit and grippy tannins, bright acidity and a long spicy finish. The struggle in this hilltop vineyard results in a gorgeous expression in the glass.

About this wine

This vineyard is well named. Remote and overlooking San Pablo Bay, this wine certainly reflects the mountain top terror. Planted in 1998 by vintner Steve MacRostie and partners. Wildcat Mountain is a hilltop vineyard (800 feet above sea level) often in the middle of the fog and vigorously challenged by the wind. The soils are rocky and well-draining. The nearby San Pablo Bay contributes to the overall terroir and climate. Altogether these elements make the vines struggle and produce distinct flavors in the finished wine.

Fun Fact: You can see the Golden Gate Bridge from this vineyard on a clear sunny day.
