2021 Petite Sirah Teldeschi Vineyard

93 Points - Vinous/Antonio Galloni

Always dark and inky, the layered aromas of cassis, wild blueberry, grilled meats are divine. The palate is rich and full yet approachable with blue and black fruits and soft pepper flavors. The finish is long, as expected, but not too heavy, with lingering floral notes. Its equally ready for an elegant dinner or casual barbeque.

This wine has a following and each year it is a pleasure to make with the fruit from Ray’s vineyard.  While it is a big, full-bodied wine, it’s made both to age and to enjoy now.

This wine pairs beautifully with:

  • Grilled or Roasted Red Meat: The high tannins and bold flavors of our Sirah complement the richness of grilled steaks, roasts, and hearty meat dishes.
  • Aged Cheeses: The complex flavors of aged cheeses, such as aged cheddar, blue cheese, or Gouda, can complement the wine’s tannic structure.
  • Dark Chocolate: The wine’s dark fruit notes and high tannins pair well with the bitterness and richness of dark chocolate.
  • Wild Game: The bold flavors of Anaba’s Petite Sirah can match the intensity of game meats like venison, elk, or wild boar without overpowering them.
  • Hearty Stews and Braises: The wine’s structure and tannin can cut through the richness of slow-cooked dishes.
  • Smoked Foods: The wine’s smoky character can complement the flavors of smoked meats, cheeses, or vegetables.

Nestled in the heart of Dry Creek Valley, Ray Teldeschi’s meticulous vineyard grows highly sought after grapes. His reputation as a remarkable farmer shows in the fruit quality. The vineyard follows an easterly slope up to the bench land, one level above the valley floor, with volcanic boomer series soil that contributes a signature spice to much of Ray’s fruit. Southern exposure guarantees plenty of sunlight and the valley’s warm days followed by cool nights result in perfect conditions for red varietals such as Petite Sirah.

The 2021 Petite Sirah Teldeschi Home Ranch is terrific. Deep, rich and pliant, the 2021 offers tons of forward, bold fruit without the tannic heft that can make young Petite so forbidding. Inky dark fruit, lavender, cloves, new leather and chocolate are all dialed up. This classy Petite is a winner.
