2019 Pinot Noir, Wildcat Mountain Vineyard
91 Points - Vinous/Antonio Galloni
The nose unveils a blend of dusty cherry, lush oak vanilla, and earthy undertones. On the palate, one finds a medley of dark fruit harmoniously paired with mouthwatering acidity and the distinct flavor of lapins cherry. The experience concludes with soft, long tannins, a lean profile, and a hint of subtle oak.
Winemaker’s Notes
This vineyard is well named. Remote and overlooking San Pablo Bay, this wine certainly reflects the mountain top terror. Planted in 1998 by vintner Steve MacRostie and partners. Wildcat Mountain is a hilltop vineyard (800 feet above sea level) often in the middle of the fog and vigorously challenged by the wind. The soils are rocky and well-draining. The nearby San Pablo Bay contributes to the overall terroir and climate. Altogether these elements make the vines struggle and produce distinct flavors in the finished wine.
